Purging as a Path to Success

First Things First: Purging…
All activity can be classified according to one of three types of actions: you can purge, tonify, or regulate. As I start this new year, I am mindful of how I am doing the things I am doing, and how they are helping (or hindering) my progress…
Before you can build a structure of any kind, you need to clear the land. Before I start a new project, I clear space for myself so I can devote myself to success with it – whether it’s a piece of writing, study, or dealing with a client – they deserve the best possible environment. Just like with the Inukshuk in the picture, before I could start to build it, I had to ensure the area I wanted to build it on was clear.
During the last year, I’ve been in a process of research on how to nurture this practice of mine, The Body Wisdom Clinic, and all the things I do within it, so that I can help as many people as possible. Part of that research included looking for and listening to, and studying with a number of experts – people who know things about building business, building “wholistic health” practices, building websites, and a whole host of other “how to” subjects. There’s a whole lot of them out there! Many very good, some not so much (at least for me), and others that excluded themselves from my consideration very quickly – thankfully!
It can be really easy to get distracted into doing nothing when listening to so many competing voices – and this can feed into several of the common enemies and usual suspects whenever progress is lacking. Confusion can lead to despair, which can lead to a pervasive feeling of inadequacy. Listening to too many experts had me going in too many directions at once, and thus not making progress in any direction. Thus, to make progress, I need to purge!
It also seems kind of ironic that the subject of a blog would have as part of its essence, the process of unsubscribing from other people’s blogs. Yet if something isn’t serving you, it’s probably taking energy from you and depleting you. So for the past few days I’ve been resolved to delete myself from a bunch of the various e-mail lists that I’ve been subscribed to during the last year, which have just filled my e-mail inbox, like junk mail. Yes, I admit – I invited this “junk mail”. I wanted to hear what some of these fine folks had to say – now, having heard some of it, I know who I want to continue listening to, and the rest – well, it’s time to gracefully let them go, for the moment!
So now that I’ve done it. I feel so much lighter – even though the thing that is gone is really just a few electrons. I expect I will have to continue with this exercise, as there may have been a few that escaped my original attention, but for the moment, this is a good beginning – and thus a good way to begin the new year, and the path to success!
